--------------
1. keep the skin dry
2. relieve pressure often by doing push ups, etc.
3. moisturise skin daily with oil etc. - mustard oil, coconut oil and vaseline are all good. best is to use them alternately
4. relieve pressure often by doing push ups, etc.
5. if you get a sore, keep pressure away. re-design your wheelchair cushion / commode chair / bed / postures etc. (whatever's required) till the sore heals
6. relieve pressure often by doing push ups, etc.
7. if the skin gets reddish, apply vaselines, oils and even a little soframycin. it helps even if the sore hasn''t formed yet.
8. relieve pressure often by doing push ups, etc.
9. the homeopathic ointment - calendula - is very good for strenthening skin
10. relieve pressure often by doing push ups, etc.

and last but no the least:

relieve pressure often by doing push ups, etc.

---------------

1. it needs to be checked immediately by a plastic surgeon withexperience in pressure sores. at leas consult with the doctors at ISIC on phone, try to get a local contact.
2. need to keep pressure off - completely. while sitting in bed, lying down, sitting in wheelchair. use a rubber tube while sitting to make sure the area of sore does not get any pressure. study your systems for transferring, bath, etc. and make sure no shearing / tearing happens during shifting / transferring, and while taking bath or using the WC - these are the two activities which cause most trouble and are probably the reason the wound has taken bad shape recently.
3. keep it dressed - twice a day - with betadine, bactroban, calendula, coconut oil etc. use betadine / bactroban once a day and calendula / coconut oil once. if th wound is in bad shape, then use only antibiotics twice a day, and the other things when condition improves.
4. keep a rich diet - rich in proteins.
5. keep the would completely dry.

----------------

For UV light you can get a lamp in the market, it's not very expensive. Take light on the affected area for 30 mins 3 times a day.
Don't keep the light too close to the skin.

Ask your doctor if you can apply an oil called Lookmane Hayat. I know the name sounds weird but it works miracles. I had much deeper wounds and they are all gone now. You can pour it into the wound, but please ask your doctor. My surgeon herself advised this treatment and the oil is easily available at any chemist shop.

--------------

I too used Lookmaane hayaat oil when I had bedsore 3 yrs back. Its a unani preparation, works wonder for any kind of wound.

Besides I also took one teaspoon three times of Figaro Olive Oil (commonly known as Zaitoon tel) and it helped me increase my immune system besides reducing pain.... at a time when I had severe chest pain due to ribs fracture.

--------------

Please have a look and ignore if you know them already.

1. My physiotherapist and some people suggested that the wound should be left open. The senior plastic surgeon i visited at Apollo Hyderabad blasted me for doing so and said that the Healing process i.e skin reformation takes place by skin cells which are formed and travel fastest in a moist environment. Saline water dressing provides the Best environment for this , so leaving the wound open would mean slowing down the healing process.

2. We discussed about surgical alternatives. He said that surgery was always an option but it would be a suggested as a last resort as a scar left after surgery is prone to more pressure.

3. I asked him whether to apply some ointment on the wound. For this he again gave me a cruel look   , smiled and said no. Finally he thought for a while and suggested that instead of saline will go for a PLatelet solution ..for 10-15 days and then check for any improvement .

Apart from physical healing mental healing is also required to get rid of pressure sores.

It is suggested that one should read through the "How to Heal Your Life" motivational book Authored by Louise L Hay . This helped me when i was facing the same problem.

My  experience.

I didn't get any pressure sores for the first 4-5 years of my injury and I was doing quite well without any problem. After that I started doing full time job which required me to sit from morning to evenings and sometimes late till night. So of course it had to happen. I got a pressure sore. Initially I didn't pay too much attention to it as I thought it wud heal up quite quickly like other injuries that happened earlier elsewhere in my legs where i have no sensation. With the doctor's advise started doing dressing everyday. Doctor had warned me that this will go on for quite a while and not heal up quickly as it was still moist and new wound. So it went on for quite a while lasting for months. It wud look like it's healing and wound is filling up and it wud get injured again somehow as I was still doing job full time. It probably even healed up completely but as I was doing excessive sitting wud come back again.

After that I started getting burning type pain in my butt and general sitting area which wud come after I have sat for a long time. Gradually the burning pain became more and more frequent and started occurring even right in the morning after I got up from bed. To counter this I started sitting on a tyre-tube of a scooter with whole in the middle which eased up my pain and allowed me to sit for long times. This also helped in completely healing up my wound and as i was getting pain with sittings and reminder to sleep every time I sat for some time. It never reoccurred again. Since then i have not had any pressure sores but the butt pain has become quite a problem making me quit my job and forcing me to sleep in the bed for lot of times. I even have to sleep sideways in the bed at night or i will pay for it the next day. So the pressure sore is gone but I got another pain in the butt, literally. ;-)

Whether u have presure sore in butt region or not you must lay prone always during nights. It will help the care giver give good back care before you go to sleep and reduce spasticity to a great extend asI get to keep my legs in line with my back, which never happens in the day. I always go to sleep lying face down.

Prostrate and bed sore will forgive you.

Hi does any of you know that the TBC spray mentioned in the link below is available in India? It seems a very promising treatment as this guy not only got rid of his bedsore but also eliminated pain with it. So I would be  very grateful if somebody provides me information about the availability of such spray or lotion or cream that contain Castor oil,  balsam peru, or trypsin, three ingredients in the TBC spray in India.
